BEAT THE HEAT RULES
2026 USSSA Beat the Heat Rules
Games will be played at:
Arroyo Grande Sports Complex- 298 N Arroyo Grande, Henderson NV 89014
55-minute games (60-minute championship and if). Game time is forfeit time. Teams MUST be ready to play at least 30 minutes prior to scheduled game time EXCEPT the first four games (8am) of the day. No exceptions! We only have a limited number of fields and 1 day to get this tournament in.
Coaches: Please check-in at the check-in table AT LEAST 30 minutes prior to your first game. You will be provided with three game balls and a chance to purchase a homerun bracelet ($25) at this time.
Coaches are responsible for the behavior of your players and fans. Please make sure everyone reads the complex rules which are posted at the front gate and available online.
Bat Testing
Only two representatives will be allowed to test the bats. If you fail to show up early enough, please don’t rush our staff to test your bats. ALL bats must be tested and have a sticker to be eligible to swing. Bat testing will open 1 hour prior to your first game.
Teams will be able to test 25 bats with the first 20 passing to be stickered.
If the batter steps into the batter’s box OR hits the ball with an altered bat, or a bat that does not have the current USSSA Certification Mark, the ball is dead, the batter is out and he/she is ejected from the game. Please ensure ONLY 240 thumbprint bats are used and on the field of play.
Pitchers
All pitchers are required to toe the rubber (Pitchers must have a part of their foot touching the rubber) There is no more pitchers’ box.
Substitutions
All substitutions must be announced to the home plate umpire and be recorded. Any unannounced substitutions that have been appealed by the opposing manager/team will result in the ejection of the illegal player. A new substitute may then be allowed to take the place of the illegal substitute. An illegal substitute appeal must be done before a pitch is delivered.
Balls
For this event, PRO M (except for the Vietnam stamped ones) or Classic M (besides the three listed below) may be used. Any ball used must have a USSSA or GSL stamp. NO STADIUM, HARD CORE OR ONYX BALLS ARE ALLOWED in USSSA tournament play.
Dudley USSSA Thunder ZN balls are available for purchase for $80/dozen, $50/half dozen or $8 per ball.
Protests
You can protest a specific player, not an entire team at once. Protest fee is $100 per player. Protests must be conducted BEFORE the end of the game. If you are successful, the game will be deemed a forfeit, and you will give back the protest fee. If you are not, the game will continue and you will forfeit your protest fee.
Home Run Rules
Men's E: 1 homerun plus DHH (if purchased)
Any untouched fair fly ball over the fence that exceeds the limit will be a half inning ending out.
Men's D: 3 homeruns plus DHH (if purchased)
Any untouched fair fly ball over the fence that exceeds the limit will be a half inning ending out.
All teams are encouraged to keep a scorebook. Home team is official book. If the home team does not have a book, the visiting team will become the official book.
DHH
A designated homerun hitter bracelet may be purchased for $25.00. You must circle the DHH at the beginning of the game when the lineup is turned in. Should you fail to do so, you will forfeit the DHH for the game. DHH’s can be switched each game.
Courtesy Runner
One courtesy runner per inning (one time) may be used. The courtesy runner can be any player on the roster. If the courtesy runner is still on base at the time his/her turn at bat comes up, that spot in the batting order will be an out.
*In extra innings, you may courtesy run for the runner at second once a completed at bat has happened.
Tie Breaker Rule: At the end of the time limit, the last completed at bat goes to second base and ONE PITCH begins.
Run Rule
20 after 3, 15 after 4, 10 after 5 with the accompanying flip flop rule..
In the championship game, the undefeated team has the option of the home team or visiting team. A coin toss will determine the home team in the “If” game.
Profanity Rule: ZERO F Bombs will be tolerated. This is your first warning. Your second warning will be advised at the coin toss. Watch the bat flips. UMPIRES CAN USE DISCRETION IN GIVING WARNINGS OR EJECTIONS FOR EXCESSIVE BAT FLIPS!
